The Reform Treaty allows for the slow creep towards full European Integration and the creation of the New European State. I find it sad that we often have to look towards the foreign press to hear what is going on. Our BBC seems totally deaf on this issue. Thank God for the Internet or I wouldn't know about this, noticed by EU Referendum, from the Wall Street Journal where the journal is commenting on Add weakening the European Central Bank's independence to the growing list of concerns about the European Union Reform Treaty.
"The ECB needs to be differentiated from the 'Union's institutions,'" Mr. Trichet wrote to Manuel Lobo Antunes, the Portuguese Secretary of State for European Affairs. His concern, it seems, is that the bank could be subject to the same rules as the other EU institutions, such as the European Commission or Parliament, which are obliged to cooperate with each other to pursue common European values and objectives. Those objectives, such as "economic and social cohesion," could clash with the ECB's inflation-fighting mandate.
